Looking for special and unique places to stay? Among all kind of accomodation we love camping the most – there is when we feel free, on our own and in touch with nature. But if we decide to take an accomodation, then it should be something special, with a personal touch and a homely feeling. The accomodations and places to stay that we will present you here, in our Unique places to stay series, are definitely one of those special places.
Imagine wide pastures with sheep and cows that end on high cliffs over the North sea and imagine that you are spending your camping break in a glamping hut somewhere in Scotland with a view like this. Sounds good?
Then Down on the farm is the right place for you! It’s a family run farm, situated in uspoiled Scottish countryside and has three type of luxury camping facilities all with dramatic cliff top scenery and enough far away from each other to feel you have the place just for you.
It’s quite hard to choose, but we enjoyed the most the Harvest Hut, a restored accommodation for farm workers, nestled in the tranquility of a grassy field. It’s sensitively restored, simple, but fun and the creative way the owners used up cycled pieces to decorate it gives you a homely feeling.
INSIDE THE HUT
The carriage hosts 3 people (ideal for our family :)), it has one double and one single bed, a two burner hob and all the cooking utensils you need. The wood burning stove offers warmth even on a cold windy day and solar powered lighting enables you to read or play board games in the evening.
OUTSIDE THE HUT
A table and chairs are available to enjoy your meals on open air. The surroundings of the hut is secluded and with views that reach to the sea nearby. On the fields that surround it you will spot sheep and cows grazing day after day.
LOCATION
Located in rural Aberdeenshire in northeast Scotland, near the towns of Fraserburgh and Banff, it has a perfect location for a family holiday or a getaway for couples. Here you will find tranquility, you will disconnect from the hustle and bustle of the crazy modern world and just for a while you will take a slowlier peace we all need nowadays.
ACTIVITIES
Near are some lovely spots worth a visit – the beautiful old fishing villages below the cliffs, the picturesque lighthouses, you can enjoy in some great rock formations and amazing walks to deserted beaches.
And what means the most to us – Carole was such a great host, welcoming, helpful and so nice to talk with. We appreciate the personal contact with owners of places we stay at and she really made us feel homely.
