Welcome to our special series, Family Trips Worldwide. In this series we post short facts about a cool place from various parts of the world that is great for a family trip. This time we present you California hot springs.
WHAT: Hilltop Hot Spring – a hot spring surrounded by nature, with marvelous views of the Sierras.
WHERE: USA, California, near the Mammoth Airport, 37°39’50.29″N 118°47’21.77″W
HOW TO GET THERE: From US 395, take Benton Crossing Road (also known as Green Church Road). Continue a short distance, past two cattle guard crossings, to the bottom of the hill. A dirt road to the left leads to the parking area and the hot spring is a short walk from there up the boardwalk to the right.
WHEN: all year round.
WHAT TO DO: soak in the hot water and enjoy in the stunning 360 degrees views. The short walk to the hot spring is very scenic too.
TIPS: In the summer you can expect a lot of locals and tourists here, but in other seasons you can be without company. In the winter time it’s great to sit in the hot tub, surrounded with snow all around you. It has a valve to regulate the temperature, so you don’t need to worry about being cold. There are other hot springs in this area as well.
